Is it necessary for the consultant to be present on the day of casting?
The presence of the consulting engineer is necessary during casting in order to follow up on the following:
1- Verify the time of arrival of the concrete and compare it with the time of exit from the mixer (shown on the invoice) to ensure the shelf life of the concrete.
2- Verify the temperature of the concrete according to the applicable code and specifications.
3- Verify the amount of concrete slump (according to the design mixture and it is written in the invoice)
4- Ensure that the vibrator is used and that another alternative is available when needed
5- Verify the safety standards during pouring
6- Directing the casting of bridges or beams first in the case of ceilings
7- Ensure that the breaking strength of the concrete matches the strength required to be poured.
8- Verify the type of additives required for the concrete and that they are recorded in the invoice.
9- Verify the quantity of concrete in the car and the cumulative total of concrete supplied.
10- Ensure the quality of cement (depending on the required quality: portland or sulfate-resistant… Or added with silica or other additives
11- Ensure that samples of concrete are taken to make cubes and break them every 7, 14 and 28 days, at a rate of 6 cubes per 100 m³. Tests necessary to receive ready-mixed concrete on site (The engineer must know the location of the central concrete mixer and know the approximate time required for the vehicle to arrive)
– If the arrival of the concrete is delayed by more than 90 minutes, it is required immediately to add a setting time retarder. There is no problem because adding a setting time delayer delays the setting time by at least three hours.
– The engineer has the right to reject concrete if it is delayed more than an hour and a half (90) minutes from the time of mixing until its arrival at the pouring site [if no doubt time delay is added]
Also to remove any responsibility falling on the consulting office
All works and items, as well as concrete blocks, must be received during the construction phase.
